Tanzania Chamber of Commerce Industry and Agriculture (TCCIA) Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture (TCCIA)

The Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture (TCCIA) is a pivotal organization in Tanzania that fosters and promotes the development of trade, industry, and agriculture.

TCCIA is a member-based organization representing businesses across Tanzania. It supports commerce, industry, and agriculture by providing advocacy, networking opportunities, and facilitating trade and investment initiatives.

As a member of the International Chamber of Commerce and the Pan African Chamber of Commerce, TCCIA operates in all 26 regions and over 120 districts of mainland Tanzania, fostering collaboration and driving economic development while bringing positive change to more than 30,000 businesses nationwide and promoting economic Diplomacy.

History of TCCIA

TCCIA was founded as part of the Tanzanian government’s initiative to support private-sector development following the liberalization of the economy in the late 1980s.

It was established in 1988 to act as a bridge between the government and the private sector, ensuring that businesses in Tanzania thrive through advocacy, capacity building, and support services.

It aimed to transition Tanzania from a predominantly state-controlled economy to a market-driven one by empowering private enterprises.

Since its inception, TCCIA has grown into a nationwide organization with offices in all regions of Tanzania, playing a critical role in policy dialogue and capacity building for small, medium, and large enterprises.

About TCCIA

TCCIA is a non-profit, member-based organization representing businesses across all sectors of the Tanzanian economy. It is governed by a National Council composed of representatives from regional chambers and overseen by an Executive Board. The chamber’s membership includes individual entrepreneurs, micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), large corporations, and sector-specific associations.

As of May 2024, the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture (TCCIA) appointed Mr. Oscar Kisanga as its new Executive Director.

Mr. Kisanga has expressed a commitment to developing new strategies aimed at establishing capacity-building programs and engaging with businesspeople and farmers across various regions. Under his leadership, TCCIA continues to enhance its support for the private sector, fostering economic growth in Tanzania.

Activities and Initiatives

TCCIA provides a wide range of services and plays an instrumental role in fostering business growth and economic development in Tanzania. One of their primary roles is advocacy and policy dialogue, where they represent the interests of businesses in discussions with the government to create a favorable business environment. The chamber advocates for reforms in taxation, trade regulations, and investment policies.

Trade facilitation is another key area, with TCCIA helping Tanzanian businesses access international markets by organizing trade fairs, exhibitions, and business delegations. They also facilitate trade agreements and export opportunities for local businesses.

The chamber offers essential business support services, including training, capacity building, market research, and consultancy, aimed at empowering its members. It connects members with local and international partners, fostering collaborations that drive business growth.

By focusing on trade, industry, and agriculture, TCCIA plays a significant role in promoting sectoral development through initiatives, workshops, and strategic partnerships.
