Dar Es Salaam Airport New Terminal 3 To Be Finalised On Time, Says Tanzania Airports Authority

Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA) Director General, Suleiman Suleiman told a Parliamentary Standing Committee on Infrastructure that the works to finalise the construction of the new terminal three at Dar Es Salaam Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) should be completed on time.

The construction of Terminal 3 officially started with Tanzania’s President Kikwete laying the foundation stone in April 2014.

The first phase of the construction of terminal three will be completed in 2015 while phase will be completed in 2017.

Once completed the new terminal, covering 70,000 square meters compared with existing 15,000 sq., and will be able to accommodate 7.2 million passengers.

Currently the JNIA airport, being the primary airport in the country and receiving flights from all over the world, is operating beyond its capabilities and handles 2.5 million passengers annually against its initially expected 1.5 million people.

Additionally, with its modern technology facilities with check-in desks for airlines, an innovative baggage system, and the latest security measures, the airport will have a potential of becoming a transport and business hub of Africa and will help promoting Tanzanian tourism industry.
