Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange Week 36, 2024: Gains in Select Banking Stocks Despite Slight Turnover Decline

The trading week ending on Friday, 6th September 2024, at the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) marked a second consecutive decline in turnover, though this week’s drop was marginal compared to the significant decrease seen the previous week. Despite the overall slowdown, select stocks like MBP and KCB recorded notable price gains.

Turnover and Volume

During Week 36 of 2024, the DSE recorded a total turnover of TZS 687.59 million from 939,071 shares traded in 1,530 deals.

This represents a decrease of -1.92% in total turnover and a negligible increase in volume traded compared to the previous week, which saw a turnover of TZS 701.06 million from 938,981 shares traded.

Market Capitalization

At the close of Week 36 of 2024, the total market capitalization and domestic market capitalization of listed shares at the DSE amounted to TZS 17,678.69 billion and TZS 12,299.47 billion, respectively.

This reflects an increase of 0.79% in total market capitalization and a decrease of -0.01% in domestic capitalization compared to the previous week’s close figures of TZS 17,547.57 billion and TZS 12,300.86 billion.

Bond Market

During week 36 of 2024, the bond market recorded transactions worth TZS 11.34 billion, representing a decrease of -52.76% compared to TZS 24.01 billion the previous week.

Indexes

At the end of Week 36 in 2024, for the second consecutive week, the All Share Index (DSEI) was the only index to increase in value, rising by 0.75% compared to the previous week’s close.
