Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange Week 4, 2025: Turnover Surges 263%, KCB Leads Stock Gains

The trading week ending Friday, 24th January 2025, at the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) saw a significant rise in market activity.

Turnover and Volume

The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) recorded a total turnover of TZS 7,953.60 million from 7,553,612 shares traded during Week 4, 2025.

This marks a +263.33% increase in turnover compared to Week 3, 2025, which had a turnover of TZS 2,189.10 million, and a +137.77% rise in trading volume compared to the 3,177,418 shares traded in the previous week.

Market Capitalization

At the end of Week 4, 2025, the total market capitalization at the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) stood at TZS 18,667.35 billion, reflecting a +2.89% increase compared to TZS 18,143.69 billion at the end of Week 3.

Meanwhile, the domestic market capitalization rose to TZS 12,385.71 billion, marking a +1.15% increase from the previous week’s TZS 12,244.88 billion.

Bond Market

The bond market at the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) recorded a total turnover of TZS 43.09 billion across 93 deals during Week 4, 2025.

This represents a -56.70% decline in turnover and a -43.98% decrease in the number of deals compared to Week 3, 2025, which saw TZS 99.51 billion traded across 166 deals.

The corporate bonds segment remained relatively quiet, with only a handful of trades in shorter-term bonds.

The 25-year government bonds continued to dominate trading activity, contributing to the bulk of turnover during the week.

Government Bonds:

  • 20-year bonds with coupon rates ranging from 12.10% to 15.49% were actively traded at prices between 69.29% and 109.22%.
  • 25-year bonds with coupon rates of 12.56%, 15.75%, and 15.95% saw significant activity, with prices ranging from 90.00% to 107.26%.

Corporate Bonds:

A 5-year bond with a coupon rate of 10.21% was traded at prices between 80.00% and 87.00%.

A 3-year bond with a coupon rate of 9.50% traded at prices between 87.74% and 90.00%.

Indexes

Week 4 of 2025 saw gains across all key indexes at the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE), except for the Industrial & Allied Index (IA), which remained unchanged. The All Share Index (DSEI) rose by +2.90%, while the Tanzania Share Index (TSI) increased by +1.24%. The Banks, Finance & Investment Index (BI) posted the highest growth of +3.29%, signaling strong performance in the banking sector.

Stock Performances

Week 4 of 2025 witnessed notable movements in select stocks at the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE):

  • KCB emerged as the top gainer, with a rise of +8.64%, followed by MKCB, which gained +7.41%.
