REPOA Tanzania

REPOA is a leading independent research institution in Tanzania, dedicated to producing and disseminating knowledge to inform socio-economic policies and promote inclusive development.

Established in 1994, REPOA has been instrumental in shaping policy dialogues and decisions within Tanzania and the broader East African region.

Mission and Vision

Mission: To engage in policy research and dialogue that promotes socioeconomic transformation for inclusive development.

Vision: To be the leading policy research institution in Africa.

Core Activities

  1. Research and Analysis: REPOA conducts extensive research across various socio-economic domains, including poverty alleviation, governance, economic growth, social protection, and environmental sustainability. This research provides evidence-based insights to inform policy formulation and implementation.

  2. Capacity Building: The organization offers training programs and workshops to enhance the skills of researchers, policymakers, and other stakeholders, strengthening the overall capacity for socio-economic development in the region.

Strategic Plan 2025-2029

REPOA is currently pursuing its Strategic Plan 2025-29 which focuses on using research-backed policies to improve the lives of Tanzanians.

While Tanzania has seen economic growth, there’s still work to be done on poverty, inequality, and climate change.

REPOA aims to be a top policy research center in Africa. It intends to achieve this by:

  • Updating its strategies to fit current development goals.
  • Clearly showing its strengths to partners.
  • Measuring its success more accurately.
  • Focusing on gender equality and how policies affect real people.

REPOA aims to influence policy by providing research and advice. It also wants to involve the private sector in creating policies that benefit everyone. The plan includes better ways to track success.

REPOA’s research will concentrate on topics like economic growth, good governance, and human development. It plans to keep a strong team of researchers and share its findings widely.

Recent Initiatives and Collaborations

  • Afrobarometer Partnership: As the national partner for Afrobarometer in Tanzania, REPOA collaborates on surveys that gauge public opinion on democracy, governance, and economic conditions, providing valuable data for policymakers and the public.

  • Green Economy Coalition Membership: REPOA is a member of the Green Economy Coalition, contributing to dialogues and research on sustainable economic practices and policies that promote environmental sustainability alongside economic growth.
