Samia Suluhu Hassan Cabinet

The Cabinet of Tanzania consists of the President, the Vice President, the President of Zanzibar, the Prime Minister, and all the Ministers.

The current cabinet is the result of the latest reshuffle by President Samia Suluhu Hassan in June 2024.

Tanzania 2024 Cabinet

The cabinet was first formed by President John Magufuli in December 2020 after winning the 2020 general election.

However, after Magufuli’s sudden death in March 2021, Suluhu, who was Vice President, was appointed President and made a cabinet reshuffle soon after.

On 12th September 2021, President Hassan made a second reshuffle.

On 7th January January 2022, President Suluhu announced major changes to her cabinet. Among the changes was the merger of the Ministry of Investment with the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

On 3rd October 2022, President Suluhu made minor changes to her cabinet with a 4th reshuffle. Among the changes was the change in the Minster of Foreign Affairs, and of Defense.

On 15th February 2023, President Suluhu made minor changes to her cabinet with a 5th reshuffle: Mohamed Mchengerwa, former Minister of Culture was appointed Minister of Tourism, and Pindi Chana, former Minister of Tourism was appointed Minister of Culture.

On 26th February 2023, President Hassan made other changes to her cabinet with a 6th reshuffle. Of relevance, Abdallah Hamis Ulega was appointed Minister of Livestock and Fisheries. Hon. Ulega takes the place of Hon. Mashimba Ndaki whose appointment has been revoked.

On 1st April 2023, President Hassan made minor changes to her cabinet with a small reshuffle.

She appointed Hon. Jenista Joakim Mhagama to be Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office for Policy, Parliamentary Affairs & Coordination, replacing Hon. George Boniface Simbachawene. Before the appointment, Mhagama was the Minister of State in the President’s Office for Public Service Management and Good Governance.

She appointed Hon. George Boniface Simbachawene to be the Minister of State in the President’s Office for Public Service Management and Good Governance, thus replacing Hon. Mhagama.

On 5th July 2023, President Hassan made minor changes to the Ministry structure:

  1. The Office of the President for Planning and Investment has been established, and Prof. Kitila Alexander Mkumbo has been appointed as the Minister of State for Planning and Investment.
  2. The Ministry of Finance and Planning becomes the Minister of Finance.
  3. The Ministry of Investment, Industries, and Trade becomes the Ministry of Industries and Trade.

On 31st August 2023, President Hassan announced a series of changes to her Cabinet to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the government’s operations.

In particular, she established the position of Deputy Prime Minister and appointed Dr Doto Biteko, previously Minister for Mining, to the position. He was also appointed Minister for Energy.

President Samia also dissolved the Ministry of Works and Transport, instead creating two new ministries: the Ministry of Works and the Ministry of Transport.

On 2nd July 2024, to enhance operational efficiency, President Hassan made several appointments and transfers.

On 21st July 2024, President Hassan made again several appointments and transfers, and again on 14th August 2024.

On 8th December 2024, President Samia Suluhu Hassan announced another reshuffle of the Cabinet to enhance its structure and operational efficiency.

As part of the changes, the information sector was transferred from the Ministry of Communication to the now Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, aligning media responsibilities with culture and arts. Furthermore, the Minister for Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports was also changed to reflect the new alignment of responsibilities.

Additionally, new appointments were made for the Ministers of Constitutional and Legal Affairs, Home Affairs, Livestock and Fisheries, and Works.
