Tanzania Sees Major Cabinet Reshuffle and Creation of New Ministry of Investment Industry and Trade

Tanzania Cabinet Reshuffle January 2022

On 7th January January 2022, President Suluhu announced major changes to her cabinet and the formation of a new Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade.

-The Ministry of Investment, previously under the Office of the Prime Minister had been combined with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to form the Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade. Dr. Ashatu Kijaji will head the newly formed Ministry.

Nape Nnauye replaces Kijaji as Minister of Information and Communications Technology.

-The previous Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, the Elderly, and Children, has been split into two ministries: Health, and Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups.

Ummy Mwalimu becomes Minister of Health, leaving her position as Minister of State in the President’s Office for Regional Administration and Local Government.

Dr. Dorothy Gwajima, former Minister of Health, Community Development, Gender, the Elderly, and Children, becomes Minister of Gender Development, Women, and Special Groups.

Innocent Bashungwa, former Minister of  Culture, Arts, and Sports becomes Minister of State in the President’s Office for Regional Administration and Local Government.

Mohamed Mchengerwa becomes Minister of Culture, Arts and Sports.

-Dr. Angelina Mabula, former Deputy Minister of Lands, Housing, and Human Settlements Development becomes Minister, replacing William Lukuvi.

Hussein Bashe, former Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, becomes Minister.

Adolf Mkenda, former Minister of Agriculture, becomes Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, replacing Prof. Joyce Ndalichako.

-The Prime Minister’s Office for Policy, Parliamentary Affairs, Labour, Employment, Youth and the Disabled was split into two. Dr. Pindi Chana was appointed Minister for Policy and Parliament Affairs, while Joyce Ndalichako becomes Minister for Labour, Employment, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities.

Jenista Mhagama, former Minister for Policy and Parliament Affairs, becomes Minister for Public Service Management and Good Governance.

Hamad Masauni, former Deputy Minister of Finance becomes Minister of Home Affairs.

George Simbachawene, former Minister of Home Affairs, becomes Minister for Constitution and Legal Affairs.

The Ministries of Finance, Defence, Energy, Tourism, and Foreign Affairs remained unchanged.

All the appointees were sworn in on 10th January 2022 at the State House in Dodoma.

Bank of Tanzania Keeps Policy Rate at 6% for Q3 2024; Domestic Economy on Strong Growth Path with Very Positive Outlook
