TIC Tanzania Investment CentreThe Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) was established in 1997 to be the Primary Agency of the Government to coordinate, encourage, promote and facilitate investment in Tanzania and to advise the Government on investment policy and related matters.

The agency deals with all enterprises whose minimum capital investment is not less than USD500,000 if foreign-owned or USD100,000 if locally-owned.

TIC grants Certificates of Incentives under authority conferred upon it by Part III, Section 17 (1-8) of the Tanzania Investment Act, 1997. Holders of a certificate of incentives are entitled to various investment incentives as stipulated in the Investment Act of 1997

Tanzania TIC Functions

  1. – Creating and maintaining a positive climate for private sector investment;
  2. – Providing advice to the Government on investment-related matters;
  3. – Stimulating local and foreign investments;
  4. – Facilitating foreign and local investors;
  5. – Stimulating and supporting the growth of Entrepreneurship and SMEs in Tanzania;
  6. – Providing and disseminating up-to-date information on investment opportunities and incentives available to investors;
  7. – Monitoring the Tanzania business environment and growth of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the country.

Tanzania TIC Activities

  1. – Proactive response to investor needs;
  2. – Stimulating and facilitating the development of entrepreneurial skills and growth of domestic investors including Small and Medium scale Enterprises (SMEs);
  3. – Servicing the National Investment Steering Committee (NISC);
  4. – Facilitating SMEs’ growth and their linkages with joint venture partners;
  5. – Monitoring the flow of FDI;
  6. – Organizing investment forums;
  7. – Continually assessing Tanzania’s investment competitiveness;
  8. – Promoting Tanzania as a viable investment destination;
  9. – Policy advocacy;
  10. – Changing the government culture through sensitization seminars.

Tanzania TIC Investment Assistance

As an investment facilitator, TIC:

  1. – Assists investors to obtain all permits, licenses, and visas;
  2. – Grants land derivative rights to investors;
  3. – Assists investors to navigate administrative and regulatory hurdles;
  4. – Provides an ‘aftercare’ service to TIC registered investors.

TIC One Stop Facilitation Center

Currently, 12 government institutions are currently providing services at the TIC, namely the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Lands, the Immigration Office, the National Identification Authority (NIDA), the National Environment Management Council (NEMC), the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), the Business Registration and Licensing Agency (BRELA), the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS), the Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA), the Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA), the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) and TIC itself.

The Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) announced that it registered 842 projects worth US$ 7.7 billion in 2024, achieving 88.2% of its target of 1,000 projects. This marks the highest investment value since 1991, with the manufacturing and transport sectors leading in project numbers and investment value. The registered projects are expected to create 248,078 jobs, reflecting significant progress driven by government initiatives and a new investment law.
